Maharashtra Minister Bawankule Accelerates OBC Education and Employment Schemes

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who chairs the Other Backward Classes Cabinet Sub-Committee, has directed officials to expedite schemes expanding educational and employment opportunities for OBC students. At a Mantralaya meeting, Bawankule reviewed hostels, the Swadhar scheme, scholarships and Mahajyoti programmes, emphasizing that eligible students access higher education, competitive exam coaching, skill development and employment support.
The committee discussed establishing a dedicated panel to examine issues faced by Vimukta Jatis and Nomadic Tribes, modelled on the existing Shinde Committee for Maratha concerns. Mahajyoti received budgetary allocations of ₹499 crore for non-plan expenditure and ₹228.64 crore for construction in 2025-26, with further provisions for 2026-27. A ₹1,300 crore proposal based on community population was submitted to the Finance Department.
Bawankule stressed transparent implementation, directing that selection lists with marks be published online and awareness campaigns be conducted through educational institutions and taluka-level camps.
