Maharashtra petrol dealers appeal to Centre for UPI MDR exemption

Petrol dealers across Maharashtra have submitted an appeal to the Centre seeking exemption from UPI merchant discount rates (MDR). The dealers argue that the charges levied on digital transactions add to their operational costs and impact margins in an already competitive sector.
The appeal highlights concerns that MDR charges on UPI payments burden retail fuel retailers, who operate on thin profit margins. The dealers are seeking policy intervention to make digital payments more accessible at fuel pumps without reducing their viability.
