Maharashtra has signed Memoranda of Understanding with Torrent Power Ltd and JSW Energy Ltd for nuclear power projects totaling 4,200 MW capacity with an estimated investment of ₹79,000 crore. The projects are expected to generate approximately 11,700 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
JSW Energy's 2,800 MW project at Bhivbandar in Ratnagiri district will comprise four 700 MW units, implemented in two phases of 1,400 MW each, requiring ₹44,000 crore investment. Torrent Power's 1,400 MW project in Ratnagiri or elsewhere in Maharashtra is estimated at ₹35,000 crore and will generate around 1,700 jobs.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said nuclear energy would meet Maharashtra's baseload power requirements alongside existing solar, wind and pumped-storage projects. He noted the Centre's SHANTI law approval has opened nuclear energy to private investment, with the state extending full cooperation to companies entering the sector.
