Mumbai Crime Branch Probes Hawala Link in Javed Jaffrey Investment Scam

The Mumbai crime branch is investigating an alleged hawala operator from Zaveri Bazaar in connection with an investment scam involving actor Javed Jaffrey and his family. Police suspect funds were routed through the operator, identified as Nirav Gokani, who is believed to have fled to Dubai. Investigators allege Gokani received multiple payments via an entity named Poojan Technologies before transferring money to suspended BMC officer Mahesh Patil, an accused in the case.
UK-based businessman Nishit Patel stands accused of defrauding Jaffrey, his wife Habiba, and other family members by promising returns from investments in a New Kamal Kunj redevelopment project in Bandra West. Patel has been arrested, while co-accused Rupesh More was held for allegedly forging government documents and impersonating an official. A Lookout Circular has been issued against Patil amid concerns he may attempt to leave the country.
