Mumbai Police Detain Over 400 at August Kranti Maidan Protest Against CEC

Mumbai Police registered an FIR at Gamdevi Police Station following a protest at August Kranti Maidan where over 400 people were detained. The demonstration, called by Tushar Gandhi, supported the Cockroach Janta Party's demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation amid controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The FIR was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 223, 126(2), 189(2), 189(3) and 189(5), with police personnel filing the complaint. Detentions occurred both at August Kranti Maidan and nearby Nana Chowk. Tushar Gandhi was detained while heading to the protest site but was subsequently released.
The Students' Federation of India condemned the police action as a "brutal crackdown" on protesters. The gathering highlighted concerns over the electoral roll revision process, with demonstrators alleging police prevented peaceful assembly at the historically significant venue that hosted the 1942 Quit India Movement launch.
