Mumbai Rape Cases Rise 31%, Sexual Offences Against Minors Up 36% Till July

Mumbai police crime statistics show a mixed trend in violence against women and girls through July 31, 2026. Rape cases climbed to 741 from 710 in the same period last year—a rise of 31 cases. Sexual offences against minor girls reached 400, compared with 364 previously, marking a 36-case increase.
A notable surge occurred in cases where rape involved deceit or false promises of marriage under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which rose sharply to 212 from 139 cases. However, kidnapping of women and minors declined to 780 cases from 822, and outraging modesty cases also fell.
Police and child-safety advocates have called for stronger preventive measures, greater awareness and timely intervention to protect children from sexual predators.
