Pune Police Book Six In-Laws for Abetment After Moshi Tragedy Victim's Wife Dies by Suicide

Pimpri-Chinchwad police have registered a case against six members of the in-laws' family of 23-year-old Sonali Gaikwad, who died by suicide in Moshi on Wednesday. The FIR was registered late Thursday under BNS sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Sonali was the wife of Nagesh Sarjerao Gaikwad, who died in the Moshi garbage depot tragedy last month. Her family alleges she faced repeated harassment and taunting by her in-laws, including blame for her husband's death, accusations over dowry and gifts, and criticism for giving birth to two daughters. The harassment allegedly intensified after Nagesh's death, with disputes arising over distribution of financial assistance received by the family.
According to the FIR, the alleged harassment continued from 2021 until August 12, 2026. No suicide note was found, police said.
