Navi Mumbai Imposes Strict Water Conservation Measures Amid Shortage

Facing a mounting water shortage, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has enforced strict conservation measures, including suspending water supply to swimming pools, car wash centres, and packaged drinking water bottling plants. Water supply to commercial establishments has been reduced by 20 per cent.
Special enforcement teams have been deployed to prevent water misuse. Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde announced penalties ranging from ₹25,000 for the first violation to ₹1 lakh for the third offence, with possible criminal action, for using drinking water for non-essential purposes such as vehicle washing or construction.
As contingency measures, NMMC has completed cleaning and repairs of 100 wells for non-potable use and repaired 166 borewells. The civic body is also increasing monitoring of overhead tanks in residential societies to prevent overflow and has appealed to citizens for responsible water usage.
