PMC to Fast-Track Jambhulwadi Lake Transfer, Develop 'Lake City' Master Plan

The Pune Municipal Corporation has been ordered to prepare a detailed master plan for a proposed 'Lake City' project encompassing Jambhulwadi, Pashan and Katraj lakes. Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale issued the directive during a review meeting on the city's lake conditions, where officials raised concerns about rising pollution, sewage discharge, water hyacinth spread, fish deaths and inadequate maintenance.
Bhimale instructed authorities to expedite the transfer of Jambhulwadi Lake from the Water Conservation Department to the PMC. The administration was asked to submit reports on funding requirements, PPP implementation scope, environmental impact assessments and biodiversity conservation measures. The master plan is expected to focus on water conservation, pollution control, ecosystem protection, tourism development and public amenities.
