Prince Rahim Aga Khan V meets Maharashtra Governor and CM Fadnavis to discuss climate, health partnership

Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), met Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday to discuss areas of mutual interest and partnership opportunities. The discussions, held at Lok Bhavan in the morning with Varma and in the afternoon with Fadnavis, focused on climate resilience, habitat, education, health, and livelihoods aligned with Maharashtra's development priorities.
The visit marks Prince Rahim's first official trip to India as Imam following his appointment in February 2025 after the death of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. In a statement, Prince Rahim expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet Maharashtra's leadership and reiterated commitment to building partnership with the state government through the Ismaili Imamat and AKDN.
The Maharashtra meetings follow his engagements in New Delhi on September 10, when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior national leaders. AKDN institutions have been operating in India since the 19th century and currently serve over nine million people through development programmes.
