Pune's Ganesha idols transform into Tulsi plants after immersion

Artisans in Pune have developed an innovative approach to Ganesha idol immersion by crafting idols from soil embedded with Tulsi seeds. After the traditional immersion ritual, these seed-laden idols decompose and give rise to Tulsi plants rather than causing environmental harm.
The initiative merges spiritual practice with ecological responsibility, addressing concerns over idol immersion's impact on water bodies. As the soil-based idols dissolve in water, the dormant Tulsi seeds germinate, creating living plants that devotees can nurture at home or in gardens.
This practice reflects growing efforts across India to balance religious traditions with environmental sustainability, offering worshippers a way to honor both their faith and the natural world.
