Pune Metro Line 3 Set for Commercial Operations With Unique Features

Pune Metro Line 3 has completed end-to-end trial runs across its 23.3-kilometre corridor and is nearing commercial operations. The metro will connect Hinjawadi IT Park with Shivajinagar, expected to halve travel time between the two locations and serve over one lakh IT professionals daily.
The project stands out as India's first metro developed under the 2017 New Metro Rail Policy via Public-Private Partnership model, executed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a joint venture between Tata Group's TRIL Urban Transport and Siemens Project Ventures. Notably, the trains will be operated entirely by women, promoting gender diversity.
Unlike conventional metro corridors connecting city centres to residential areas, Line 3 is primarily designed to serve the IT corridor. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion on key routes including the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway and Baner Road.
