Pune Police have dismissed a viral social media claim that 123 girls were kidnapped in the city within 22 hours, stating their investigation found no concrete evidence to support the allegation. A reel and audio clip claiming women were being abducted spread rapidly on WhatsApp, Instagram and other platforms, creating panic among residents, particularly parents and young women.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gauhar Hasan said the Crime Branch and local police conducted detailed verification and contacted the person who recorded the audio. Police questioned people connected to the incident mentioned in the recording. "No truth was found in the claim. It is completely fake," Hasan said in a video message to residents.
Police investigated the specific incident described in the audio involving a woman on a scooter and found no evidence supporting the claim. Authorities stated the viral message was baseless and urged residents to verify information before sharing.
