Pune Ranks 12th Nationally in Clean Air Survey 2026, Scores 183 of 200

Pune has ranked 12th in the national Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026, a survey conducted under the Centre's National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The city scored 183 out of 200 in the category for cities with populations exceeding one million.
Three other Maharashtra cities ranked higher: Thane (7th), Navi Mumbai (9th) and Nagpur (10th). Mumbai placed 28th nationally. The survey evaluates city action plans, dust management, traffic control, waste handling, industrial emissions and public awareness initiatives.
Pune has adopted sensor-based air quality monitoring at construction sites exceeding 5,000 square metres, tracking PM10 and PM2.5 levels. Two civic wards have been selected for state awards. Despite these measures, Pune continues battling pollution from rising vehicle numbers, traffic congestion, construction activity and industrial emissions.
