Indian Railways Approves ₹990 Crore Maharashtra Infrastructure Projects

Indian Railways has approved two infrastructure projects in Maharashtra totalling nearly ₹990 crore. The first involves doubling the 10.86-km Chouk-Karjat section on Central Railway at a cost of ₹497 crore, expected to allow five additional passenger trains daily in each direction and support 18.35 million tonnes of freight annually.
The second project, valued at ₹493 crore, constructs a 38.21-km new rail line between Mukutban in Yavatmal district and Gadchandur in Chandrapur district. This route will connect industrial and mining areas, handling 6.08 million tonnes of freight traffic and operating two MEMU trains in each direction daily.
Both projects aim to improve passenger capacity, ease freight movement, reduce train detention, and strengthen connectivity to key industrial and mining regions across the state.
