SP MLA Seeks Two-Month Extension for Maharashtra Voter Roll Revision Deadline

Mumbai: Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh has petitioned the state Chief Electoral Officer for a two-month extension to the September 30 deadline for Maharashtra's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that lakhs of eligible voters have been omitted from the draft rolls despite submitting valid registration applications and receiving acknowledgment receipts.
Shaikh highlighted multiple issues hampering the revision process, including pending Form 6 applications for new voter registration and Form 8 requests for address corrections at the Booth Level Officer level. He noted that affected voters had not received proper notifications from election authorities. Server problems on the Election Commission's website and mobile application have further complicated matters, while BLOs have shown reluctance to work during festival holidays.
The MLA cited particular concerns in constituencies including Bhiwandi, Madanpura, Mankhurd and Govandi. He demanded that voters with SIR acknowledgment receipts be included in final rolls, pending applications be expedited, and offline application drives be conducted to address online system failures.
