Navi Mumbai Students Set Guinness Record with 10,000+ Eco-Friendly Clay Ganesh Idols

More than 10,000 students from schools and colleges participated in the 'Eco-Friendly Maha Ganesh Idol Workshop 2026' at CIDCO Exhibition and Convention Centre in Vashi on Thursday, creating Ganesh idols from shadu clay under expert guidance. The initiative earned Maharashtra a place in the Guinness World Records for the largest such eco-friendly idol-making event.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the event and emphasised that devotion mattered more than idol size. He appealed to citizens to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an environmentally responsible manner and avoid practices that damage water bodies. Fadnavis urged people to reject large plaster of Paris idols and artificial colours that contribute to water pollution.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde also participated, creating clay idols alongside Fadnavis to reinforce the message of sustainable celebrations while preserving cultural traditions associated with the festival.
