Sundri Uttamchandani's 100 Sindhi Short Stories to Get Digital Revival Through Online Audio Repository

Mumbai: On the occasion of celebrated Sindhi writer Sundri Uttamchandani's 103rd birth anniversary this month, 100 of her short stories are being compiled into an online audio repository. The initiative aims to make her literary legacy accessible to younger Sindhis who understand the spoken language but struggle to read its script.
Uttamchandani's daughter, Asha Chand of the language promotion group Sindhi Sangat, is leading the decade-long project. Chand voices female characters while actor Ashok Chanchlani handles male roles. Around 35 stories have been formatted for audio so far, though progress has been slowed by difficulty in finding voice-over artists fluent in Sindhi vocabulary and diction.
Uttamchandani (1924–2013) was a prolific writer whose six-decade career spanned novels, poetry, plays, essays, and translations. She earned the Sahitya Akademi Award for her short story collection Vichhoro (Separation), and her work sensitively addressed Partition, displacement, and women's lives.
