Bhiwandi Kohinoor Apartment: BNCMC Demolishes Remaining Wing After Collapse, 98 Families Homeless

The Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) has evacuated the remaining A-Wing of Kohinoor Apartments and announced its demolition on Sunday, following the earlier collapse of the B-Wing. The civic body disconnected electricity and water supply to all 60 flats in the structure, citing serious safety hazards. The two wings together housed 98 flats and eight commercial shops, displacing nearly 98 families.
BNCMC Assistant Municipal Commissioner Faisal Tatli declared the building unsafe for habitation and said demolition would begin at 10 am Sunday after safety protocols are confirmed. Police arrested resident Amritlal Nishad in connection with the incident. Investigators allege Nishad collected repair funds from residents and handed them to contractor Ashok Paswan, who carried out the work. Police are examining whether proper structural procedures were followed and if negligence contributed to the collapse.
Many residents, who invested their life savings in the apartments, now face uncertainty over compensation and rehabilitation as the demolition proceeds.
