Thane Municipal Corporation Cuts Water, Power to Unsafe Buildings

The Thane Municipal Corporation has launched strict enforcement against 91 highly dilapidated buildings classified as extremely dangerous. While 51 structures have been evacuated, 42 remain occupied by approximately 852 residents. The civic body has begun disconnecting water and electricity supplies to compel occupants to leave these unsafe premises.
Ward committees are serving official eviction notices to building residents. The Naupada-Kopri ward has the highest concentration with 52 dangerous structures, followed by Vartak Nagar with 14 and Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar with 16. Other areas including Majiwada, Uthalsar, Kalwa, Mumbra and Diwa also house multiple at-risk buildings.
Two properties have already been demolished. The TMC has directed electricity providers including MSEDCL to cut power connections to accelerate evacuations and prevent potential disasters.
