Thane PSI killed after fleeing suspect attacks with cement brick

A 56-year-old police sub-inspector was killed after being attacked with a cement brick during a night patrol in Thane on September 24. PSI Kisan Kamlakar Bhoir of Chitalsar police station was patrolling with Police Constable Ghute and other personnel as part of security arrangements for the Ganpati festival when the incident occurred around 11 pm on Pokhran Road No. 2.
The patrol team noticed a man creating a commotion near a paan stall. When Bhoir intervened, the man allegedly abused and slapped the PSI before being placed in the patrol vehicle. During transit to the police station, the accused jumped out of the slowly moving vehicle and fled. Bhoir chased him near the City Flow bus stop, where the man allegedly pushed the PSI to the ground, picked up a cement brick lying nearby, and struck him on the back of his head before escaping into a nearby lane.
The accused, identified as Raju Premkumar Valmiki, 30, a resident of Gandhinagar in Thane, has several previous theft cases registered against him. Constable Ghute rushed Bhoir to Titan Hospital in Manpada, where doctors declared him dead around 11.41 pm. Beat Marshal personnel Nilesh Pawar and Bhosale subsequently apprehended Valmiki in a nearby lane.
