Unregistered coaching academy in Alandi sealed after eight students drown in Diveagar

The coaching academy that organized the fatal Diveagar trip had been operating in Alandi for almost two years without registration with the municipal council, officials said Friday. The administration is now preparing to seal the academy and verify whether the building had valid permissions.
Eight Class XI and XII students drowned during the academy's picnic at Diveagar in Raigad district. The Alandi Municipal Council Chief Officer said the academy never obtained permission to conduct classes or operate its business. Since it was established after a municipal survey, it was not registered with the council.
Immediate action includes sealing the academy, while further legal proceedings by police will follow. Officials are also verifying the building permission and rent agreement of the premises.
