Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri hydel project gets environmental clearance recommendation

An expert committee has recommended environmental clearance for the Upper Subansiri hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh. The project, a major infrastructure undertaking in the state, has been pending clearance for some time.
However, the recommendation comes with significant environmental concerns. Approximately 1.35 lakh trees are at risk of being felled for the project's implementation. Environmental groups and local stakeholders have raised concerns about the impact on forest cover and biodiversity in the region.
The project remains subject to final approval by relevant environmental authorities before construction can proceed.
