Sub-contractor Booked After Two Workers Die In Wadala Metro Construction Site Staging Collapse
The Wadala TT police have registered a case against sub-contractor Tariq-ul-Islam, 40, for negligence and workplace safety lapses following the deaths of two workers at a metro construction site near Bhakti Park Monorail Station in Wadala East, Mumbai. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on September 12 when workers Nahij, 33, and Sakim, 37, were climbing down from the first floor using an iron staging structure that suddenly collapsed, causing them to fall to the ground.
The workers were employed for centring, steel-fixing and carpentry work at the site. After their shift ended, four workers descended safely via a staircase while Nahij and Sakim attempted to use the staging. Both sustained serious injuries in the fall. They were rushed to Sion Hospital in a private vehicle, where Nahij was declared dead on arrival and Sakim died during treatment in the intensive care unit.
