Mumbai Railway Passengers To Pay Extra ₹5.90 On UPI Transactions Above ₹2,000 From October 15

Mumbai railway passengers purchasing tickets or suburban season passes worth ₹2,000 or more through UPI will face an additional charge of ₹5.90 from October 15. The charge comprises ₹5 Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) and 90 paise GST, effective after midnight on October 14.
The surcharge will apply to both suburban and long-distance railway tickets, affecting weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual suburban passes. First-class and AC pass holders on longer routes will see more noticeable fare increases. For example, a one-month AC pass between CSMT and Kalyan will rise from ₹2,340 to ₹2,345.90.
Passengers can continue buying tickets at railway counters without the additional charge. A Western Railway Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee member suggested Railways should absorb the cost instead of passing it to commuters, given the daily footfall of 75-80 lakh passengers on Mumbai suburban trains.
